You can take a 5 day cruise in Ontario that takes you past a majestic castle
If you're looking for a unique Ontario experience this summer, why not take off on a mesmerizing journey with the Quinte Cruise, navigating a 370-km section of the Trent-Severn Waterway, Bay of Quinte, St. Lawrence River, and Thousand Islands.
This enchanting five-day adventure, operated by Ontario Waterway Cruises, offers a unique opportunity to explore some of Ontario's most picturesque landscapes and historic sites - even a castle!
The cruise's passengers will experience a blend of Ontario's natural beauty, learn about passed-by landmarks, and wander around charming small towns, making it an unforgettable experience for anyone seeking to explore Ontario in a special way.
The journey begins in Peterborough, where passengers can spend the day exploring before boarding behind the Peterborough Holiday Inn. The Kawartha Voyageur remains docked there for the night before setting off for adventure the next morning.
The cruise sets off before breakfast, heading down the scenic Otonabee River, surrounded by giant willow trees, lily pads, and sleepy turtles. The voyage traverses Rice Lake, known for its domed islands reminiscent of ice ages past.
After passing through Hastings, the journey continues down the Trent River, finishing off day one with an overnight stay at the stunning Healey Falls near Campbellford - one of the region's most scenic spots.
The second day continues down the Trent River, passing through the charming town of Campbellford. Some more exciting locks lead to Percy Reach, a remarkable river-widening spot with tons of fish and waterfowl to watch. The day ends with an overnight stay near Frankford.
Day three features a series of old locks on the lower Trent, leading to the southern end of the Trent-Severn Waterway at Trenton.
The cruise then navigates the beautiful Bay of Quinte, docking for the night in Picton, located in the heart of Prince Edward County.
Leaving the Bay of Quinte, the cruise continues along Adolphus Reach and the North Channel behind Amherst Island. Soon the journey enters the St. Lawrence River for an afternoon cruise concluding at Gananoque, a charming little town and a gateway to the Thousand Islands region.
The final day begins with a cruise through the Thousand Islands, passing the majestic Boldt Castle on Heart Island. This picturesque Rhineland-style castle, built in the early 1900s, is definitely a highlight of the trip.
The voyage continues back up the river via the Bateaux Channel to Kingston. Passengers board a bus at 2:00 p.m. for the return trip to Peterborough, arriving back at the Holiday Inn parking lot in the evening.
If you want more cruise opportunities like this - Ontario Waterway Cruises also has two other unique Ontario experiences:
