New Ontario hotels

Two new hotels in Ontario were just ranked among North America's best

Two hotels in Ontario were just named among the best new openings in North America, and are the only ones who made the cut from Canada.

CN Traveler just released their annual Hot List for 2023, which included a compilation of just 24 of the past year's best new hotels within the United States and Canada.

Based on this year's list, Toronto's Ace Hotel, which opened in July 2022, and The Royal Hotel in Picton which opened in May 2022, secured coveted spots in the directory.

Condé Nast's global team spends an entire year researching, visiting, and vetting entries worldwide to create the curated collection for the luxury and lifestyle travel magazine, looking at everything from style to ethos and service.

The Ace Hotel - which also recently received accolades in Travel + Leisure's 18th annual It List ranking 25 out of 100 best new hotels worldwide - was praised for its design as thoughtfully tailored to Toronto.

"To spend a few hours in the space, with its revolving door to the street outside and rows of oversized picture windows, is to recall the bustling ground floor in Grand Hotel, but with toque-wearing hipsters filling the stage instead of Greta Garbo," the magazine writes.

"The variously sized rooms and suites meld the brand’s minimalist aesthetic with distinctly Canadian touches, while the hotel’s subterranean dining room, Alder, is a highlight of any visit: Chef Patrick Kriss’s way with wood-fired grilling is deliciously on display."

The Royal Hotel in Picton, albeit in its more rural setting, earned a place with its recent restoration while showcasing the best of what Prince Edward County has to offer.

"Now, the hotel is back and better than ever, offering casual luxury that honors both Prince Edward County's roots and current status as a wine tourism hot spot," the description states.

"The restaurant pulls ingredients from the Sorbara family's Edwin County Farms, and a guests-only pool deck makes The Royal the place to book during Prince Edward County's busy summer season."

Other hotels to make the list range from urban gems to countryside wellness getaways and dreamy waterfront escapes, found throughout the United States.

Besides The Ace and The Royal Hotel, Ontario has no shortage of incredible accommodations for your next staycation. Here are some of the best hotels in downtown Toronto, or check these out if Prince Edward County piques your interest.
