The Best New Bars in Toronto for 2021

The best new bars in Toronto are getting us through with wine and tiki cocktails— all while hopscotching through lockdown closures and reopenings. It’s all worth it when craft beer, live music and lawn games are on the horizon.

Here are the best new bars in Toronto.

Bar Pompette

Bar Pompette

The sister bar to Little Italy’s French restaurant Pompette supplies coffee and fresh-baked goods in the morning and cocktails on tap in the evening. Sip on Nitro Colada on the adorable patio out back.

Piccolo Cafe e Vino

Piccolo Cafe e Vino

John Street has a new pitstop for Italian cocktails, pinot grigio and roses from Spain. Head over during happy hour between noon and 5 p.m. for campari sodas and glasses of buck-an-Oz wine.

Track & Field

Track & Field

Talk about an upgrade: College Street’s basement bar for bocce and draught beer has reopened down the street with two storeys and way nicer furniture. The whole point of one-handed lawn games is that you can hold a cocktail in the other.

BSMT 254

BSMT 254

Hard to believe, but Toronto just got a new spot for live music, several in fact. Among them is this bar at Lansdowne and College, tallying a win for music lovers with some proper programming and booze to boot.

Sari NOT Sari

Sari NOT Sari

Replacing the lower-level Parkdale party spot The Shop comes a bar that’s a lot more versatile. Owner Justin Bella has transformed the space into a hub for Filipino culture, from the BB’s weekend pop-ups down to the parties DJ’d by Toronto’s best.

Fun Time

Fun Time

Right upstairs from Sari NOT Sari is this snack bar sharing space with nightclub AMPM. It’s a no-rezo spot for noodles and cocktails running Wednesday to Sunday in the digs where Parts & Labour used to be.

Bar Cathedral

Bar Cathedral

This venue on The Esplanade takes its live music seriously. The Cathedral-themed house cocktails are definitely worth a mention, but the stellar sound system will definitely have you focused more on the music than the drink in your hand.
