wonderland ride stuck

Violent outburst occurs after riders trapped on Canada's Wonderland ride

You can expect to let out a few screams aboard rides during the average visit to Canada's Wonderland, but one fed-up parkgoer's loud outburst is gaining attention for the fact that it took place while a group of guests were trapped on a ride last Thursday.

The irate parkgoer was recorded while in an apparent rage on the malfunctioning ride, screaming obscenities at a person off-screen, his outbursts of anger timed to swell and recede with the ride's swinging motion in an almost cartoonish fashion.

The outburst continued after riders were evacuated, with the man seen hurling bottles toward the ride operator while being dragged out by park security.

Wonderland spokesperson Grace Peacock confirms to blogTO that, "on Thursday, July 18 at approximately 3:30 p.m. the Riptide attraction stopped with guests onboard."

Peacock states that the ride was out for approximately 40 minutes, though "the park's operations and maintenance team responded quickly and guests were unloaded safely by 4:10 p.m. No injuries were reported, and the ride is open and operating normally."

Peacock says that parkgoers can learn more information about ride stoppages and why they "sometimes happen" in a blog post on the park's website.

The ride stoppage and ensuing viral video are just the latest in a string of incidents out of the park this season.

Earlier in July, a 17-year-old fell up to 40 feet from a ride after a medical episode and was transported to local hospital in critical condition. Just days later, flooding turned the theme park's parking lot area into a small lake.

July's mishaps follow additional high-profile ride stoppages the month before, when attendees were trapped on three separate rides in a single day in June.

The park received some of its negative attention of the 2024 season back in May when a guest was allegedly sold a barely cooked hamburger for $25.

In addition to headline-grabbing events like flooding, serious injury and ride breakdowns, the park is well behind schedule on its latest attraction, a new water ride called Moosehorn Falls.

When it finally opens later this summer, the attraction will launch riders up a 42-foot-tall wall face, allowing them to experience the feeling of zero gravity.
