Vasan's Tacos
Vasan's Tacos is a family-run business that serves South Asian-inspired tacos that are assembled on naan and 100 per cent halal.
It's owned by siblings Rieshiee and Naveen Vasuthevan who have around five years of restaurant experience. The restaurant is also named after their father.
"As we both are South Asian, it's only natural we bring that experience we grew up with to our customers," Rieshiee tells blogTO.
They assemble their tacos using naan rather than traditional tortillas and use various traditional curries for the fillings.
Around half a dozen options for tacos hover around $5, including four meat options and two vegetarian options. You can get any three tacos for $15.
Of course, one of the options is butter chicken, which comes with cheddar cheese, cilantro lime sour cream and crispy onions.
The other non-veg menu items are a spicy "Devil's Shrimp" with sauteed onions, cheddar cheese and coleslaw; a mutton curry goat option with cheddar cheese, cilantro lime sour cream and hickory sticks; and beef kebab with onions, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and spicy mayo.
The vegetarian option range from paneer with cheddar cheese, cilantro lime sour cream and crispy onions to mixed potato with corn, peas, carrot, cheddar cheese, cilantro lime sour cream and crispy onions.
You can also get these combinations on top of nachos for around $8.
"What we strive to do is deliver [a] South Asian fusion experience using the freshest ingredients and recipes that are all made from scratch," says Rieshiee.
"We take no shortcuts. There were, of course, many challenges we faced during this journey such as developing the recipes. We had to do many trials and error till they were perfected."
Vasan's Tacos actually has high hopes to expand all over North America, so watch out for this sibling powerhouse serving South Asian tacos like you've never seen them before.
