Sophie's Kitchen
Sophie's Kitchen is a cheery spot for affordable, delicious brunches.
With only 24 seats inside, this cozy restaurant has quickly become the hot ticket of morning and midday meals in midtown Toronto.
There aren't many brunch options in this part of Bayview other than a couple old-timey spots and greasy spoons, so a 40-minute weekend wait for a seat at Sophie's is well worth the food being served up from their open kitchen.
Plus, owners Hayley Edwards and Robbie Sabato have designed a place that's both hip and family-friendly enough for residential Leaside.
The restaurant, which has a fresh and fun citrus motif running through it, is actually an ode to their newborn daughter—there's a framed picture of her at the cash register.
Recipes here are as refreshing as its design. The menu is a mix of healthy-yet-satisfying brunch staples, comfort foods, wholesome salads, and a separate kids' menu.
The Eggs Bennington ($13) is a classic benny but with a bit more flavour than your standard dish.
Using delicious Canadian bacon and hollandaise sauce on an English muffin from Cobs, it also comes with a great potato hash with sautéed onions and peppers on the side.
If you're a fan of French toast, you'll swoon over this pecan cornflake crusted version ($12).
Served with fruit and whipped cream made in house, this Brioche bread is crusted with a corn flake, pecan, and cinnamon mix for an addictively-crispy toast.
And as a shareable sweet dish or whole meal, the stack of lemon ricotta pancakes ($12) are a standout. These beautiful cakes are stacked and made to order with layers of lemon ricotta sauce and blueberry compote.
You'll be provided a whole dispenser of maple syrup to douse your dish to your heart's content.
The essential brunch beverages are all available from their extensive drinks menu, which ahs everything from your standard mimosas and caesars to a few brews frm Ace Hill and Pumphouse Brewery.
There's freshly-squeezed stuff too, including a sizeable charcoal lemonade ($4) that'll bring some extra tang to what's easily one of the tastiest brunches in the city.
