Revolver Pizza St. Clair
Revolver Pizza St. Clair is the third location of the successful Mimico pizza chain. Named for its rotating menu, this pizza joint offers different flavours depending on the season.
Though slightly smaller than its sister locations in South Etobicoke and Woodbridge, the Toronto restaurant nevertheless shares its predecessors' stripped down, industrial aesthetic.
Wooden tables and metal shelves line the brick walls, while a huge digital menu hangs above the main counter. With the exception of a few potted plants, decorations are few and far between.
Due to the store's limited seating, most customers take their orders to go. A large portion of these customers are students at the high school across the street, but others are regulars at the other locations.
These regulars are overjoyed by the pizzeria's presence on St. Clair West. Though many were more than willing to travel long distances for delicious food, having a store closer to home makes late night pizza runs a lot more convenient.
Revolver Pizza's offerings change every couple of months, with a few staple dishes remaining consistent throughout the year. One such dish is the arancini ($3.75 each, two for $6.50).
These fist sized rice balls are hand-rolled daily, then fried to golden perfection. The filling is made from a mixture of buttered rice and mozzarella cheese, but meat-filled variations are also available.
The nduja special ($20/small, $30/large) is a red sauce pizza covered with mozzarella, spicy nduja sausage and wild mushrooms.
However, the sesame seed crust is what really sold me on this pizza. By sprinkling the dough with crunchy sesame seeds, the dish's texture was elevated to a whole new level.
The chipotle chicken ($20/small, $30/large) is a white pizza, topped with mozzarella, chipotle sauce and pulled chicken. The finishing touches are garlic rapini, wild mushrooms, and parmigiano. From the outside, the salumi calzone ($14) looks identical to all of the other pastries on offer. That all changes the moment you tear it open.
Inside, you'll find red onions, fresh mozzarella, mushrooms, pancetta and your choice of hot or mild salumi, all doused in a savoury tomato sauce.
Be sure to save room for dessert. In addition to their rotating selection of pizzas and calzones, Revolver Pizza serves many different kinds of cakes. The caramel marshmallow cheesecake ($7.99) is one of the newest additions to their lineup. Topped with fluffy marshmallows, chewy caramel and graham cracker crumbs, this cheesecake is sure to satisfy your sweet tooth. The Kit Kat tiramisu ($6.99) is another solid option, thanks to its winning combination of ladyfingers, cocoa powder and cream.
Revolver Pizza also sells a wide variety of preserves and dry goods. If you'd like to spice up your home cooking, consider picking up a jar of olives on your way out.
You can also buy ramekins of their homemade dips for $2.25 each.Revolver Pizza St. Clair is located at 968 St. Clair Avenue West.
