Poopalicious Cafe

Poopalicious Cafe

Poopalicious Cafe in Toronto's Corso Italia neighbourhood is a spin-off of the viral Poop Cafe in Koreatown

Owner, Lien Nguyen first opened the original Poop Cafe in 2016, which instantly blew up for its highly Instagrammable desserts and embrace of bathroom humour.

With the opening of Poopalicious Cafe, Nguyen entreats visitors to "experience the magic of a place where food and fun come together in the most unexpected and delightful ways."

Poopalicious CafeWalking in from St. Clair Ave. West, two large pink-haired anime figurines greet you. This is Lina, the cafe's mascot, who is actually inspired by Nguyen herself.

The cafe's attention to detail and dedication to its theme is impressive. At each table you will find a roll of toilet paper instead of napkins. Patrons sit around tables on pastel coloured toilets.

Wooden "outhouse" booths meant for studying have bathroom-themed murals and toilet seats painted on the backs of benches.

These are just a few of the immacuately curated aspects of Poopalicious Cafe's decor.

Nguyen explains her goal with Poopalicious was to "take the poop-themed cafe concept to the next level." From the poop swirl light fixtures to the toilet bowl mugs, she has definitely succeeded in creating an immersive dining experience.

Poopalicious CafeLike Poop Cafe, Poopalicious has an extensive selection of Asian fusion cuisine. The focus is still novelty sweets and drinks, however there are also a few main course options on the menu.

Poopalicious CafeThe first drink I tried was the Matcha-Tisu ($9.99). The iced matcha and tiramisu flavoured milk tea with whipped foam and mini chocolate mushrooms on top, was rich and reminiscent of a garden in a cup.  Poopalicious CafeThe next drink I tried was an Oreo Freak Shake ($16.99). Even though the glass deceivingly is adorned with cookies, donuts, cupcakes and candy galore, the milkshake itself was creamy and not overly sweet.

Poopalicious CafeMoving on to hot drinks, the Sakura-Tisu Latte ($6.99) was served in a cute pink toilet-shaped mug.

The latte is topped with tiramisu flavoured foam, however the most noticeable taste comes from the strawberry Pocky sticks crushed on top, creating the cherry blossom tree design. Poopalicious CafeFor those not looking for anything too sugary, Poopalicious has a selection of hot teas on the menu as well.

Tea leaves are placed in hilarious infusers sold at the back of the cafe. This Lemon Ginger Tea ($3.25) was a nice palette cleanser in between all the sweets I was sampling.

Poopalicious CafeIn a departure from drinks, a main course I tried was the Slumbering Bunny Hotpot ($19.99). The adorable rabbit rests in a bed of noodles, leafy boh choy, kimchi, sliced pork, spam and fish cake.

Although it may feel wrong to disrupt the bunny's peaceful slumber, I will say make sure to dunk each ingredient in the broth to ensure everything is cooked evenly before trying this delicious savoury dish. Poopalicious CafeThe next item I tried was the Mango Coconut Sticky Rice ($12.99). The fresh sliced mango, bath of buttery blue coconut milk, mango ice cream cubes and rice in the shape of a bear created a wonderful collision of flavours and textures. Poopalicious CafeThe Taki-No Mori Honey Toast ($17.99) was more so an art project than food! The cubes of honey-flavoured toast were topped with mascarpone (an Italian cream cheese), ice cream, green "moss" cake and chocolate rocks creating a waterfall landscape.

There was a hint of honey flavour, but again it managed to remain just the right amount of sweet, despite its decadent appearance.
Poopalicious CafeThe last item I tried was the Nutella Poop Waffle ($4.25). You really can't go wrong with a Nutella filled waffle and sprinkling of powdered sugar.

Poopalicious CafeNguyen tells me, "It's more than just a cafe—it's a celebration of creativity, humor, and the simple pleasures of life."

Nguyen and her team have even created a colouring book for children visiting the cafe and accompanying app that brings their drawings to life through 3D animation. (It might get me a few weird looks, but I'd love to colour and see this 3D effect anyday as an adult).
Poopalicious CafePoopalicious Cafe has gone above in beyond in the world-building and evolving their concept for this new cafe.

I like that the food and drinks, while eye candy undoubtedly, are not overly sweet. The cafe is definitely a kid magnet. Although I can see an adults being attracted to its novelty for a special occassion or just to check out the unique desserts for a cool Instagram photo.
