Meet Fresh
Meet Fresh is a chain known for their Taiwanese dessert. They have over 600 stores worldwide but this is their first Toronto location.
The dessert destination is two floors.
On the ground level people come and go who are ordering takeout while upstairs there are tables for dining in.
Meet Fresh's taro balls and grass jelly are made in-house. They both comes in the Meet Fresh Signature ($8.70). A huge slab of herbal jelly and blended ice come mixed with satisfyingly chewy taro balls.
The Taro Ball #2 ($8.70) is taro balls with sweet potato, barley, and tapioca pearls. It's an odd but satisfying combination that somehow works.
The Purple Rice Porridge with Taro Ball ($8.40) should be ordered hot, especially during winter months. It's essentially taro balls mixed with purple rice. Cream is available to add for extra richness.
Baobing is a classic Taiwanese dessert and Meet Fresh’s rendition doesn’t disappoint. Red Bean Shaved Ice with Condensed Milk ($10.70) is a massive mount of shaved ice drenched in condensed milk and topped with red bean. Upgrade with a scoop of ice cream for an extra $1.50.
The Q Mochi and Egg Pudding Combo ($5.70) is small and tube-shaped mocha that's chewy and just a bit sweet. It's served with a small cluster of tapioca pearls.
The Mung Bean Cake and Mochi Combo ($7.70) is black sesame and peanut mochi alongside mung bean cake filled with red bean. The consistency vaguely reminds me of a Fig Newton.
