The Egg Eatery

The Egg Eatery is a quaint little restautant that serves Indian-style breakfast from a strip mall on Kennedy Road.

Housed in a bright yellow and white space, decorated with egg-themed accoutrements, the Egg Eatery first opened its doors in July of 2024.

This establishment is one of several cafes to bear this name. The first was opened in 2017, when owner Meet Patel first decided to turn his passion for cooking into a business.

the egg eaterySince then, Meet and his brother Dev have worked in restaurants all around the world. Though this location marks their first foray into the Canadian restaurant industry, they have experience working in both India and Australia.

the egg eateryMeet tells me that some changes had to be made before the restaurant concept was brought across the ocean.

"Everything is different here," he explains, emphasizing the difficulties he faced when searching for suppliers. "We couldn't use the exact same ingredients that we had at our other locations, but we needed to preserve the proper flavour."

the egg eateryAs its name implies, The Egg Eatery's main attraction is its wide selection of egg-based dishes, from fried eggs to omelettes.

That said, these are far from the only items on offer. The restaurant also serves sandwiches, curries and rice dishes, inspired by traditional Indian cuisine.the egg eateryBoil Shots ($6.49) are somewhat similar to deviled eggs. These hard-boiled eggs have been peeled, cut in half and filled with a mixture of cheese and yolk, which gives them a light texture and a slightly tangy taste.the egg eaterySahi Anda Korma ($13.99) is a colourful curry filled with peppers, onions and eggs. With its spicy flavour, this dish is sure to wake you up, especially if it's your first meal of the day.the egg eateryBy contrast, Kaju Masala ($15.99) is a rich, creamy curry that makes use of sauteed cashews and masala gravy.the egg eateryThe Gughra Sandwich ($6.99) is a grilled cheese sandwich with a twist. Inside each triangular piece lies a mixture of cheese, onions, green chillies and ginger.

The meal is served with a side of spiced potato chips, which can be added to the sandwich for a little extra crunch.

the egg eateryIf you want to indulge your sweet tooth, look no further than the Rajwadi Shake ($4.99), a beverage that can be best described as a candy shop in a cup.

Saffron, cardamom and nutmeg are just some of the spices I tasted.

A piece of gulab jamun floats on the surface, providing you with one last treat once you're finished with the drink.

the egg eateryThe Egg Eatery also offers free dessert after every meal, consisting of ras malai in vanilla ice cream.

This spongy Indian snack is made from chenna and clotted cream, which allows it to absorb the flavour of the ice cream with ease.

Meet and Dev tell me that they may eventually start charging for the dessert, but for now, they're simply content to share it with their customers.
