Dickey's Barbecue Pit Toronto
Dickey's BBQ, officially known as Dickey's Barbecue Pit, has brought its Texas flavours to the heart of downtown Toronto.
This is the latest in the brand's expansion as the world's largest barbecue brand and franchise, adding to its 700-plus locations to date.
Operated by Anand Desai and partner Sharmistha Ghosh, Toronto's first location opened on April 20 at Yonge and College.
The new space has a sleek interior, an abundance of seating and the brand's signature contrasting black and yellow branding with chalkboard-style signage.
Founded back in 1941 by the Dickey family in Dallas, the family-run is known for its Texas-style barbecued meats, which are all prepared and smoked daily onsite in a hickory wood-burning pit.
The menu includes meat platters and combo plates ($24.99 - $29.99) or meats by the pound ($19.99 for a half pound, $36.99 for a full pound) with a selection of brisket, pulled pork, chicken, burnt ends, and more.
The combo plates are accompanied with a thick slice of Texas toast, along with two sides. There's smoky barbecue beans, creamy mac n' cheese, potato salad, coleslaw, and green beans among the sides that are offered. So the most difficult decision of the day will be choosing just two.
Of course, all the sides are available for $4.99 for a small size and $13.99 for a large.
Pit-smoked barbecue sandwiches ($14.99 - $17.99) are generously filled with the same smoked meat options, which you can douse in your choice of Dickey's Original, Sweet, or Spicy sauce.
The wings are also slow-smoked in the same wood-burning pit and come in a 6-piece ($12.99) or 12-piece ($21.99) pack. Their ribs fall off the bone and are brushed in your choice of sauce, at $24.99 for a half rack or $45.99 for a full rack.
Wash all that barbecue down with a soft drink in one of their signature reusable big yellow cups ($3.99). Don't throw it away once you're finished - if you bring it back with you next time, it's only $1 to refill it.
Dickey's Barbecue Pit is located at 472 Yonge Street and is open daily from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m.
