DaHu Hotpot
Dahu Hotpot is an all-you-can-eat restaurant that combines contemporary aesthetics with the fiery flavors of Chongqing-style hotpot, delivering comforting warmth on chilly days.
Nestled in Baldwin Village, the restaurant has a vibrant interior bathed in an orange glow. The space is embellished with Chinese red wooden carved wall art and marble tables, adding an extra layer of elegance.
Dahu's AYCE hotpot option is available all day, priced at $31.99 on weekdays (Monday to Thursday) and weekends (Friday to Sunday and holidays) with an additional $2 per person.
For those who find this option overwhelming, there is also a solo hotpot lunch set ($21.99) during weekdays. Each set comprises your chosen broth and a main course, either meat or seafood, an assorted hotpot platter, along with free soft drinks.
Like most AYCE hotpot restaurants, there's a self-service station where you can load up with a variety of sauces and seasonings to add to your hotpot.
I'd personally suggest pairing your hotpot with soy sauce, freshly minced garlic, chopped green onions with a hint of sesame oil.
DaHu Hotpot has a diverse selection of soup base flavours ranging from a traditional Chongqing-style spicy broth to a gentle pork bone broth infused with Chinese herbs.
I chose their Two-flavour soup base ($18.95) which in one side was an aromatic spicy soup crafted with beef oil, Sichuan peppercorn, dried chili peppers and various spices.
On the other side, I got the Braised Silk Fowl Soup, also known as silkie chicken soup, renowned for its distinctive skin color.
Prepared with ginger, Chinese red dates, dried longan and Goji berries, this nourishing broth is ideal for replenishing energy in your body during the winter season.
You can also opt for individual pots, like their tomato soup base ($7.95) or Duck with Pickled Radish Soup ($8.95).
Personally I like incorporating some vegetables into the non-spicy soup base at the outset, to prevent absorption of the oil from the meat added later on.
While there's an extensive selection of meat, my attention went to the fatty beef chest oil slices that shrink quite a lot as they cook, resulting in a delectable crunchy texture.
A special scraper is provided for some of the ingredients like the gooey fish roe shrimp and cuttlefish paste that I dropped into my simmering hotpot.
Beverages are not part of the AYCE package but I'd recommend ordering the sour Iced Plum Juice ($7.98) that is served in a jar. Other options such as the canned sweetened Chinese herbal tea, creamy coconut juice and sparkling orange juice are all priced at $3.50.
Finish off your visit by indulging in their dessert offerings including soft serve, sweet fermented Rice Balls, or fried sesame balls.
DaHu Hotpot is located at 47 Baldwin St.
