Cocky Spicy Fried Chicken
Cocky Spicy Fried Chicken can be found on the second floor above popular Chinese spot Hong Shing. It's hard to miss, courtesy of the flashy purple siding and graffiti-style logo.
Their offerings include fried chicken legs and wings, sandwiches, pasta and rice.
Fried chicken ($6.99 for two pieces) comes in either classic or spicy options although there are plenty of additional sauces and seasonings to choose from.
Upgrade to 6 pieces for $18.00 or 10 pieces for $29.99.
The signature Cocky Sauce is rich and tangy, with hints of sesame, but you can drench your wings ($4.99 for four pieces and $8.99 for eight) in spicier flavours, too, like Flaming Cajun, Sichuan Hot Pot, or classic Buffalo.
For those who are less spice-inclined, Cocky Spicy Fried Chicken has options for you, too. You can't go wrong with a generous dose of Sour Cream 'n' Onion, Honey Mustard, or BBQ.
If you stop by on an empty stomach, the cocky crispy chicken sandwich ($6.99) offers a hefty portion, especially considering the price. Big chunks of crispy chicken get topped with fresh and crunchy cabbage and yes, you can choose your spice level.
All types of chicken can also be ordered as a combo with a fries and drink for an extra $2.99. I recommend the Cajun flavoured fries which are packed with flavour.
There's also calamari ($5.99) on the menu that could easily be mistaken for onion rings. They stayed fresh and crispy for a while after they were served.
For something a little different try the Chicken and Red Beans Rice ($8.99) which owner Ji Luo says is inspired from Middle Eastern cuisine. It comes with a salad and a drink.
Expansion is top of mind for Luo, a first time restaurateur. He has plans to transform the space to accommodate live comedy shows, music performances, as well as install a large TV for sports nights.
Cocky Spicy Fried Chicken is located at 191 Dundas St W.
