California Sandwiches now has a dozen or so locations in the GTA (with the original still in Little Italy), but this outpost on Yonge is the first one to land right in the downtown core. Although it remains family-run, this spot is a lot more slick and polished than the mom-and-pop look of some of the others, and feels a tad more sterile. The menu remains the same though, with humongous and messy made-to-order Italian sandwiches (the veal is a fave) that come with your choice of tasty toppings. Make sure you've got a supply of napkins handy - you're gonna need 'em.
