Toronto is about to host the largest street festival of its kind in the entire world — and it's free to attend.

Tamil Fest is returning to Toronto this August, bringing with it all of the vibrant food, music, dancing and arts that Tamil culture is famous for.

Back for its tenth year, the festival has welcomed over a quarter-million attendees throughout its history, even seeing 90,000 visitors in its first year, making it the single largest Tamil street festival outside of India.

This year's festival promises to be even "bigger and better than ever," boasting two days filled to the brim with utterly droolworthy Tamil street food vendors lining Markham Road between McNicoll and Passmore.

In fact, over the past 10 years, Tamil Fest estimates that over 800 different vendors have kept the crowds well-fed, dressed and decorated, offering support for Canadian-Tamil businesses since the festival's inception.

It's not only about the food, though; the festival celebrates all facets of Tamil culture with live music and dance performances showcasing both traditional and modern styles from local and international artists in an epic six-hour performance program.

You'll also be able to pick up a souvenir (or two, or three,) from a number of local vendors and artisans selling Tamil decor, artwork, clothing and acessories.

Performers and vendors will be announced through Tamil Fest's social media in the weeks leading up to the festival, so keep an eye trained to learn more about what, exactly, you can expect to see, eat and do at the festival.

Tamil Fest 2024 is taking place from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Aug 24 and 25 on Markham Road, just south of Steeles.
