How to attend Jack Layton's funeral

Jack Layton's state funeral takes place at Roy Thomson Hall tomorrow at 2 p.m. Although the majority of seats at the venue will be reserved for invited guests and dignitaries, the first 600 members of the public who line up outside of Roy Thomson Hall will be given a bracelet that will allow them access when the doors open around noon. One suspects that these bracelets will be in high demand, so be prepared to line up will in advance to make the cut.

For those who aren't able to attend the funeral itself, there will be other ways to pay one's respects. Along with Layton's lying-in-state at City Hall today (until 8 p.m.) and tomorrow (from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.), there will be video screens showing the funeral at David Pecaut Square, located beside Roy Thomson Hall.

There will also be a funeral procession from City Hall, which will take the following route: west on Queen St., south on University Ave. to King St., and finally west on King St. to Simcoe St. A "people's procession" that will hitch onto the back of the official caravan at University and Queen streets has also been organized for those on foot and bikes.
