Toronto After Dark Film Festival leaves Bloor Cinema

After six years at the Bloor Cinema, the Toronto After Dark Film Festival has a new venue. Citing concerns about the timeline of renovations at the now Hot Docs-operated theatre, organizers have moved the festival to the Toronto Underground Cinema for 2011

A note on the festival's website explains the decision:

"As some of our fans may have read recently, the historic Bloor Cinema, our festival's main venue since we started Toronto After Dark six years ago, is now under new management. The great news for fans of the Bloor, is that the 100-year old venue, which had found it a struggle to survive in recent years, is now in the safe and secure hands of our reliable friends at the Hot Docs Film Festival and their partners at Blue Ice Film. Widely regarded as one of the biggest and best-run film organizations in the city, Hot Docs plans to lovingly restore and upgrade the building over the coming months. However as the renovation is expected to last into the Fall with some uncertainty over its final completion date, in order to reassure attendees of this year's Toronto After Dark, we have decided to relocate our Oct 20-27, 2011 festival to a new venue, the Toronto Underground Cinema."

No word yet on whether or not the change is permanent.
