Sherbourne Common opens today

The south side of the new waterfront park at the foot of Sherbourne Street opened today.

Sherbourne Common, which Torontonians helped name, is the third and largest new public space opened by Waterfront Toronto since August. The park features lots of green space, a pond that will be turned into a skating rink in the winter, a pavilion, cafe, and stormwater UV treatment facility.

"Building a new waterfront means leading with public spaces first, and Sherbourne Common is one of Toronto's most imaginative parks in decades -- utilizing many water features from Lake Shore Boulevard to the water's edge," said Mayor David Miller. The federal government contributed $27 million to the creation of the park. The north side of Sherbourne Common will be opened later this fall.

We'll have a more detailed look at the park - with photos - tomorrow.
