Cost of York U subway going up again
According to the Toronto Sun, the much anticipated subway extension to York University is--surprise!--going to cost more than expected.
Design work on the station is going to cost $3.2 million more than previously expected, which is on top of a $3.7 million surge to the design contract approved in June. Just the design work is expected to cost upwards of $18 million.
According to a report, the extra costs are due to needing to solicit two alternative designs from consultants. The York University station is estimated to cost $124 million.
The report also highlights a few other projects that will cost more than expected, including improvements to the Queensway Bus Garage, which will need an additional $1.8 million, and a $65 million Wilson Carhouse expansion project, which will need an additional $4.5 million.
