The Neighbourhood Mixtape: You're A Target
The Neighbourhood Mixtape is a collection of newly-released songs by Toronto musicians. The mixtape is meant to celebrate Toronto's music culture and provide a forum to listen to and discover new local music.
Every Sunday, I post a five-track mixtape (along with my own mini-reflections for each track) that you can download or stream as a soundtrack for the week.
Track #1: Warm Myth, "Working"
Ohbijou's Casey Mecija and Kieran Adams (drummer, Bonjay) form Warm Myth. You can listen to three of their songs on their Tumblr, including the sweet, melodic miniature, "Working".
Track #2: Bravestation, "Tides of the Summit"
Experimental group Bravestation has a knack for creating dreamy, escapist tracks like "Tides of the Summit" - a song from their upcoming debut album Giants & Dreamers (July 10th). Percussion fizzes, while crystallized synths emerge with sun-bleached vocals, setting the tone for the album's tropical textures. Download the song for free here.
Track #3: Sunclef, "Pyramid Funk"
"Pyramid Funk" buzzes with belches of melody blips and jolts of electronic luminescence, which mutate into fathomless sounds that zap your ears with sweeping energy. Download the track for free here.
Track #4: PS I Love You, "First Contact"
Our favourite track this week comes from rock duo PS I Love You. The band's sophomore album Death Dreams is out this week, gripping you with howling tracks and enduring, beastly guitar solos. We love "First Contact", the stunning last song from the duo's ambitious record.
Track #5: Metric, "Youth Without Youth"
There's still a few weeks until Metric's Synthetica (June 12th) is released onto store shelves, but you can listen and purchase "Youth Without Youth", the band's heart-stamping first single off the new album here.
