Sally Shapiro: DJ Princess of the Icy North

Sally Shapiro: DJ Princess of the Icy North

Did Swedish disco sensation Sally Shapiro bring that snow and ice with her? She and producer Johan Agebjรถrn made their North American debut last night with a DJ set at Wrongbar.

First off - I just checked the weather in Gothenburg, Sweden and it's two degrees and sunny there. So no, they did not bring that winter storm with them last night. They did, however, bring plenty of icy smooth pop and italo disco records.

Those who showed up early caught fun DJ sets by Will Munro and recent Paper Bag signees Woodhands. You'll be hearing a lot about them in them in the next little while.

When Sally and Johan hit the decks, the medium-sized and very enthusiastic crowd bopped to a solid mix of underground records, 80's tracks by the likes of Madonna and Spanish band Mecano, and modern hits by Annie and some tracks off Sally's Disco Romance record (released last year on Paper Bag Records).
