Meta Cannabis Co.
Meta Cannabis is easily Toronto's most regal weed store, selling flower, edibles, oils, and glassware from inside the old Dominion Bank Building.
The historic high-ceilinged property, which dates back to the early 1900s, that housed the Elephant and Castle Pub for years is now home to glass cases filled with Afghan Kush and silicone pipes.
It's the first official location of Meta Cannabis, which first launched as Meta Cannabis Supply Co. in Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
With plans to expand across Ontario, this new iteration of the chain displays its product by brand, rather than dividing up stock by strains, as most other weed stores tend to do.
The left-hand section of the store feature products from licensed producers like Broken Coast, Canaca, and Sundial Cannabis, each with its own shelf.
Experience-wise, it's pretty soothing to shop for weed inside such a beautiful building, with original moulded ceilings and mezzanine railings leftover from the Elephant and Castle days.
The pub even left behind their signature British telephone box (which, fun fact, were actually invented by the same man who designed the Trinity College Chapel, which has one of the most beautiful ceilings in Toronto).
A sensory station with incense sticks let visitors become a bit more familiar with the kind of terpenes they might like in their weed.
Sniff the glass domes containing wafts of pinene and myrcene and see which ones strike your fancy.
Edibles are currently limited to chocolates, like Aurora Drift sea salt and caramel ($9.99), a 27 gram bar containing the legal maximum of 10 mg THC.
Next to the chocolate is a section dedicated to a rotating stock of oils, sprays, and capsules from brands like Riff and San Rafael.
Meta also has its own brand of rolling papers, alongside your standard Raw papes.
One of my favourite things about the store is its selection of glassware, namely the Meta brand pipes and bongs made from heat-resistant brosilicate glass in a variety of really clean colours.
There are 4-inch spoon pipes with deep bowls ($14.99), or my personal favourite, a free-standing 5-inch 'Sherlock' pipe ($29.99). That, or the 9-inch 'Gandalf' pipe ($29.99) from Trees Glass.
The vape section has a good number of disposable vapes and cartridges, like a disposable Dosist pen ($59.99), which measures out 2.5 mg of THC or CBD per pull by vibrating when you've had the right dose.
My favourite display is the wall of 30 different kinds of pre-rolled joins, which come in singles all the way to 10-packs.
Choose your weed by talking to one of the employees, or simply heading to the cashier, who'll supply you with your goods straight from the counter.
