Sweat and Tonic - The Well

Sweat and Tonic at The Well has opened in Toronto, and it's so much more than just another gym.

The founder, David Ingram, says the brand's mission is "to bring together the best of fitness and wellness under one roof" — something that's certainly on display with their latest location.

Walking into Sweat and Tonic at The Well, you're greeted with smiles from the staff and the scent of coffee brewing at the cafe in the lobby.

The style of this facility was inspired by the area it's located in — the chic look of King West nightlife combined with everything needed to support health and wellness at the gym.

sweat and tonic the wellThis new space is their biggest location, measuring 25,000 square feet. Ingram tells blogTO that the idea for Sweat and Tonic was originally "conceived from my experience going to various parts of the city to find the workouts I wanted," so here, it's a one-stop shop.

sweat and tonic the wellEach studio is its own entity, and the sheer amount of space and detail incorporated is impressive. The spin studio, for example, is the largest in Canada with capacity for 75 riders and three instructors on Technogym bikes.

The bikes are very intuitive if you're newer to spin. They also have a self-serve shoe station so you can access cycle sneakers to clip into the bikes if you don't own any, or don't feel like bringing yours.

The studio feels like a club, with a powerful sound system, lighting, and a projection screen that can be used during classes to offer a more immersive experience.

Classes sometimes take place facing outside, where you can take in Lake Ontario while you exercise, while others use the screens to create an immersive escape.

sweat and tonic the wellOne of their most popular offerings is the Chroma class, which use custom-programmed chromatic lights to offer one of the most unique workout experiences in the city. The variety of classes offered means there truly is something for everyone.

sweat and tonic the wellThe HIIT studio is a perfect place to sweat it out. They offer nine different kinds of classes, using state-of-the-art equipment for each.

Like the rest of the space, this studio has serious club vibes. You'll be hard-pressed to find another spot where there is space for every person in the class to work on their own boxing bag at the same time.

sweat and tonic the wellYou have access to everything you could need for pre and post-workout as well. The locker rooms have showers, lockers, mirrors, and hair dryers. There are various water bottle filling stations throughout, plus essential oil towels outside the yoga and pilates studio for after class.

sweat and tonic the wellOne of the coolest spaces in the facility is Tonic House, a co-working space and lounge accessible by those with an unlimited membership.

Here, you can make use of private bookable meeting rooms, two sound-proof phone booths for taking meetings and calls, an all-season patio, and a bar accessible to all members after 5 p.m.

sweat and tonic the wellWhat really sets this space apart from their original location, though, is the 10,000-square-foot wellness and recovery hub that will open in February 2024.

Here, you can experience a 50-foot saltwater lap pool, high-tech biohacking therapy rooms, and treatment rooms. Treatments include massage and physiotherapy, cryotherapy, red light therapy, compression therapy, IV therapy, and Dexa Scan technology.

Ingram describes this hub to blogTO as "combining a luxury spa experience with the most advanced science-backed technologies."

sweat and tonic the wellClass credits and memberships aren't cheap, but you get a lot for the price. The Well 9-5 Sweat membership is $180, while the Unlimited membership costs $275.

A single class credit costs $32, but they offer bulk credit packs which lowers the costs per class so you can access them for as little as $25. The memberships to The Well location also give you access to the Yonge Street location.

sweat and tonic the wellEntering the space really feels like you're escaping the business of the city, and the sense of camaraderie is unique. I appreciated the keen focus on detail and enjoyed how well they combined relaxation, socializing, and movement.

Whether you're a dedicated member of their other locations or you’re just a bit curious, it’s well (no pun intended) worth a visit.
