nightmare before christmas toronto symphony orchestra

You can watch a classic Halloween film scored by a live orchestra in Toronto this week

While we're still two weeks out from Halloween, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra is giving Toronto audiences the chance to watch an utterly spooktacular movie with live accompaniment for a limited engagement this weekend.

Although Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas will forever be embroiled in debate as to whether it's more of a Halloween or a Christmas movie, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra falls into the former camp, and that's why, this weekend, they're hosting screenings of the movie with an extra-sweet twist.

There are no tricks here, but the screenings come with the added treat of live accompaniment from the orchestra playing Danny Elfman's iconic Golden Globe-nominated score alongside unforgettable tunes like This is Halloween and What's This?

Conducted by Sarah Hicks, protective fans of this movie can rest assured knowing it's in good hands: Hicks is a specialist in the film-in-concert genre, with live concert recordings appearing on Disney+.

While the TSO hosts a number of films-in-concert over the year (this December you'll be able to watch Elf in concert), there are only three performances of The Nightmare Before Christmas in concert this weekend, so you'll want to make sure to snag your tickets quickly.

Tickets are currently available through the TSO's website, and range from $55 to $161 depending on location.

Performances are set to take place at Roy Thompson Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19 and Sunday, Oct. 20, as well as a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday.
