TIFF to screen virtual reality films at 2016 festival

The Toronto International Film Festival is bringing movies to life for 2016. Well, not quite, but it is showcasing virtual reality (VR) films this year as part of its POP VR program.

POP VR will run between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. from September 16 to 18 inside the TIFF Bell Lightbox on King Street West. TIFF has yet to release its VR lineup, but like all such films, they'll probably let you experience some pretty cool environments.

"The Festival has always been committed to providing audiences with transformative experiences," says TIFF's artistic director Cameron Bailey in a press release.

"POP VR continues this tradition with immersive journeys that travel beyond the frame into the interactive world of virtual reality. With POP VR, the Festival shines the spotlight on visionary artists who are creating groundbreaking new narrative forms."

The 2016 festival runs from September 8 to 18. And if you can't wait until after Labour Day to get your VR fix, check out Toronto's first ever VR cinema next month.
