First-ever 100% Indigenous-owned department store opening in Toronto this month

Shoppers in Toronto are about to get the chance to support a host of Indigenous-owned businesses all in one place.

Named after the Ojibe term most frequently used as a greeting, aaniin, the newest pop-up department store to open in the Eaton Centre, is set to open its doors later this month.

Featuring some of the most notable Indigenous-owned businesses from across Turtle Island, the new shop is making history as the first-ever 100 per cent Indigenous-owned department store in the Eaton Centre, if not the entire country.

“This store is all about celebrating Indigenous creativity, and we’ve made supporting our community easier than ever in a way that’s powerful, accessible and inclusive,” says aaniin founder Chelsea Pettit, and they're doing that by showcasing more than 40 of the most innovative and unique Indigenous businesses in the country.

Taking over a 6,500 square-foot space in the shopping centre for a four-week run, the shop will feature brands like  aaniinCheekbone BeautyLesley HamptonUrban Native Era and Dragon's Den alums, Mini Tipi, to name only a few.

The shop is set to open to the public on Friday, Nov. 29 and run through to Dec. 31, giving the city's shoppers an almost unparalleled opportunity to support and amplify Indigenous entrepreneurs while picking up unique finds on your holiday shopping exploits.

aaniin will be located on the second floor of the Eaton Centre in the space formerly held by American Eagle.
