222 spadina market

Under-the-radar Toronto mall now home to food pop-ups and local designers

222 Spadina Market, also known as the Underground Market, is back by popular demand this weekend.

The hidden market will return to Chinatown in the basement of the Chinatown Centre (222 Spadina Ave) on Saturday and Sunday.

Entry is free and you'll be able to shop from a variety of vendors selling one of a kind items.

Six months ago, The Underground Market began hosting a series of pop-ups and quickly picked up steam—transforming the basement of the bygone mall into a shopping haven and community hub.

Events are always on weekends and usually twice a month. While vendors differ every time, you can expect to find a selection of vintage clothing, jewelry, artwork and other handmade goods.

Last month's market even featured live performances and tattooing sessions

The marketplace tends to attract a Gen Z demographic with its numerous Y2K clothing vendors.

Not only has The Underground Market created a gathering space for the city's youth, but it provides a platform for many young, local business owners to promote their work.

Some vendors to expect this weekend include Toronto Yatai, YX Vintage, Tiny White Star, Cyberdoll Vintage, Nokshatara, Bonito Flakes, Hey! Mom Onigiri and street artist Lewis Mallard.

This "hidden" market is a weekend staple and surely not one to miss. Find it at 222 Spadina Avenue in Chinatown.
