Crinoline Flowers, fashion as art

Daryl Banks is an up and coming local photographer. His art-fashion series "Crinoline Flowers" pushed all of my buttons. Cute skirt, cute shoes and a funky hose.

I spoke to Daryl at his recent exhibition at the Victory Cafe. He said these photographs were "inspired by macro photography of flowers. I wanted to simulate the intricate beauty of those photographs with crinolines, legs and hosiery."

Although Daryl has recently been doing pure fashion shoots, I enjoy his more artistic work. Aside from the craftsmanship, art and fashion can both learn a lot from each other. Just look at Warhol.

Daryl's exhibition will be at the Victory Cafe until the end of April. If you are in the Markham Street area, stop in and see the series in person. Yes, they are for sale. I'm thinking of buying one this week.
