Seraphic
Seraphic is the latest cheap-and-cheerful store to open on the budget-friendly near-Spadina stretch of Queen West , offering up inexpensive immediates to the party-mad masses.
The shop is split between men's and women's, with the pieces exhibiting a flashier King West aesthetic; brands include Coco & Tashi, Urban Tribe, and ACDL, among other immediate lines. (FYI: Immediates are the type of streetwear-influenced, lower-end clothing that fall between generic wholesale-type garments, and independent contemporary labels.)
For men, there are Marco Donatelli striped dress shirts in many shades ($85), and black cotton twill pinstriped blazers ($200), along with white army-style Bauhaus button-downs ($70).
The clothes have a flamboyant, ultra-synthetic, sexed-up feel to them, like the multi-coloured leopard-print minidress by Foxy Couture ($130), Love Stitch's faux-leather jacket with built-in scarf ($150), and the thin turquoise and black plaid shirt with ruffles and beading from Alix K ($135).
(For those cold Toronto winters, there's a few cute coats, too, like the Pudding plaid number with the high neck and fur-lined hood [$160].)
My favourite line in the store, C'est Moi, includes a chic grey and black chain-draped tank ($65), a draped lace top ($65), and stack of stretch camis ($25). Shoppers looking for femme, fun brands more along these lines can look forward to Kensie and Collective Concepts making their debut at the store soon.
