Barber & Co. is a hip and cozy barber shop on Ossington. Originating in Vancouver, the shop is run by third-generation barber from Montreal Martin Rivard. He started cutting hair on weekends when he was just 14.

He wanted to create a place where barbers would love to work, and the Barber & Co. empire (now owned by Donnelly Group, the same folks behind Belfast Love) grew to encompass an academy as well, which provides the string of shops with many of its employees.

The shop is bright and clean while still retaining trendy elements. It’s got a white washed feel that still has the appropriate amount of scruff for a business aimed at guys.

Barber & Co. stocks a bunch of great men’s hair products like beard balm and shaving cream, from Crown Shaving.

Prices run from a measly $16 for a buzz or a beard/moustache trim to $45 at the high end for a “deluxe shave.”

In addition to selling products from reputable brands like Crown Shaving, Barber & Co. stocks their own products. Tins of their signature moustache wax with slick striped packaging retail for $18. The only ingredients are beeswax, carnauba wax, Himalayan cedarwood oil and vitamin E.

Though the chairs and the aprons of the barbers who work here may be heavy and leathery, there are cheerful bunnies that create a sort of motif around the space that lightens up the design and encourages you not to take your makeovers here too seriously.
