Yoko Ono: Cleaning Piece for Gardiner
Visitors are invited to commemorate the closing of YOKO ONO: THE RIVERBED by participating in a new work created especially for the Gardiner. Yoko Ono’s CLEANING PIECE FOR THE GARDINER is a set of instructions that offers visitors the opportunity to take home parts of the installation in small white boxes that will be provided by the Museum to the first 500 visitors. They will also be given colourful materials to decorate the boxes, bringing vibrancy to the all-white space.
Since February, thousands of visitors have added to THE RIVERBED, using broken ceramic shards, tape, glue, string, nails, and other materials to leave their mark on the installation. CLEANING PIECE FOR THE GARDINER is a communal gesture that allows this creative energy to be preserved and shared beyond the exhibition’s run. For the first time, visitors will also be permitted to take photos in the space to document their experiences. Join us in bringing Yoko Ono’s instructions to life and sharing the process with a global online audience.
