The 12-part web series Yacht Rock began in 2005 and immediately hurled a harpoon into our hearts, kindling a secret love affair with silky smooth music that each one of us had always felt – but denied. It’s time to go back, get together, and set sail on a voyage… right to the top of the charts.

Filmmakers J.D. Ryznar (as Michael McDonald) and Hunter Stair’s (as Kenny Loggins) glorious saga details the mythical origins of a previously undefinable genre of music, weaving the real life trials of tribulations of how smooth 70s and 80s music was made – from a despondent Michael McDonald being forced to write a smash hit for the Doobie Brothers, to Kenny Loggins turning his back on his buddy Jimmy Messina to follow an 80s “highway to the Danger Zone”, and John Oates of Hall & Oates swearing at everyone in sight – Yacht Rock is one of the funniest shows ever made and successfully turned on countless doubters to an unquenchable passion for music that’s been rescued from the adult contemporary dump heap.

Yacht Rock the series was a huge hit – it became a household phrase at radio stations, a bin at your local record store and a category on iTunes. But beneath its pop cultural triumph was an artistic one that often went undescribed: Yacht Rock's stories were always clever and sometimes downright genius in their assembly, weaving trivia, common knowledge, exaggerations and fabrications into a rope strong enough to hold it at the #1 position for an unbelievable number of non-consecutive month at its original home on Channel 101 and sweeping the 2005 Channy Awards.

Oh – and did we mention there will be a band doing covers of smooth music before the show?

Recommended: Hawaiian shirts, sunglasses, warm spirits, cool cocktails, sailing caps, life jackets, friendship, the eternal flame.
