World/Jazz Fridays: Iroko Project with Madelin Espinosa
This evening is a part of the Women in Percussion Festival which runs Oct 11 to 15 at Lula Lounge.
Iroko Project
Cuban quartet Iroko delivers cutting edge Latin Jazz with strong Afro-Cuban roots. Led by percussionist Jorge Torres, the band includes bassist Roberto Riveron, violinist and vocalist Yosvany Castaneda, and pianist Jorge Betancourt.
Madelin Espinosa
No one brings Latin flavour and rhythms with such style like Cuban multi-percussionist, Madelin Espinosa. Born into a family of artists and percussionists in Havana, Cuba, Madelin studied at the prestigious Felix Varela School of Music. Afterwards, she kicked off her professional career playing in various all women percussion groups and collaborated with other groups and recordings including Raul Torres’ Fenix de Crystal. Madelin is currently living in Madrid, Spain and has toured Finland and Sweden with singer Jari Sillanpaa and band director Carlos del Puerto.
Doors open: 6:30 pm / Show starts: 7:30 pm.
Free Admission before 8:00 pm. $15 after.
Admission includes salsa lesson at 9:00 pm and live salsa at 10:30 pm.
