A LIFE IN WAVES Toronto premiere!

If you watched TV, went to the movies, or listened to the radio in the 80s and 90s, you probably heard Suzanne Ciani's work, whether you knew it or not. Suzanne is a five-time Grammy nominated composer, electronic music pioneer, and neo-classical recording artist whose work has been featured in countless commercials, video games, and feature films. This documentary explores Suzanne's life and innovations through her own eyes, under the direction of Brett Whitcomb whose documentary GLOW: THE STORY OF THE GORGEOUS LADIES OF WRESTLING inspired the Netflix series of the same name. From her earliest days learning the piano, to becoming a master of the Buchla synthesizer, to her multi-million dollar advertising ventures she created the Coca-Cola pop and pour sound effects!, and the first solo female composer of a major Hollywood film THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING WOMAN to her successes in the world of New Age music in the 80s and beyond, the film is a journey into Suzanne's mind and the creation of a whole new genre of electronic sounds.

This brilliant short experimental documentary revolves around the life and work of electronic music pioneer Delia Derbyshire, best known for her groundbreaking sound treatment of the DOCTOR WHO theme music created inside the BBCs Radiophonic Workshop. A collage of sound and image created in the spirit of Derbyshires unique approach to audio creation and manipulation, this film illuminates such soundscapes onscreen while paying tribute to a woman whose work has influenced electronic musicians for decades.
