Valda Zobens: Perilous Journey & Threads and Memories - March 2 - 20
“Perilous Journey” series
Exposure to daily world news has inspired the artist to represent migrants from many lands in their desperate but hopeful travels towards re-settlement in new countries. Some of her paintings are supported by media images. The artist’s previous works has been influenced by her travels; however the “Perilous Journey” series is the artist’s direct response to the refugee crisis of today.
50% of sales from “Perilous Journey” series will be donated to St Leonard’s Refugee Sponsorship program.
“Threads and Memories” series
In the last three summers, the artist has been studying monoprinting at Fleming College in Haliburton, ON. In this particular series the artist explores the relationship between colour and shape. Each monoprint is a one of a kind artwork, although images can be similar.
