The Burbs: How Toronto's suburbs are defining our food culture behind the scenes.
While the city of Toronto continues to receive global praise for its culinary prowess, many often overlook the diverse food culture outside of the downtown corridor. An increasingly large immigrant population has spread throughout the GTA in the last 30 years, and through this wave we've seen a rising number of densely populated food neighbourhoods. It can be argued that the city's best international food, is not in the city but in its suburbs.
Suresh Doss is a food & drink travel writer based in Toronto, Canada. For the past 12 years, he's been producing content through a variety of web and print channels. Currently he is the Print Editor for Foodism Toronto, a bimonthly publication that distributes to 50,000 readers. Suresh also regularly hosts food tours throughout the GTA, highlighting the various internationally rich corners of the city. He is currently working on a 2017 TV show that will explore food culture in the Toronto suburbs.
