Trauma Informed Poetry Writing Workshop & OM Chanting with Singing Bowls
This women's circle is facilitated by a woman of colour and trauma-informed writing guided.
Have you noticed that after experiencing trauma, you haven't been able to express yourself the way you'd like? Perhaps you have had to suppress the truth due to a lack of support or a fear of what will happen if you speak out. Are you noticing the energy of this suppression in your throat area?
During a traumatic experience, there is a decrease in the Brocas area of our brain which is responsible for speech and language production. Through practices like OM chanting and poetry writing, we can bring repair to this function and continue the process of piecing together our lives again.
This trauma-informed experience begins with OM chanting, accompanied by the resonant vibrations of singing bowls and a gong, offering a safe space for self-exploration as you clear away stagnant energy and feel the power of your voice.
Following this sound meditation, we will engage in poetry writing exercises that encourage authentic expression and creativity. This workshop is open to all levels, and invites you to connect with your voice in a supportive environment with other people who are on their healing journeys.
As we explore the theme of The Unbound Voice, you will have the opportunity to share what you create during this workshop (or bring a piece to share!), fostering a sense of community and connectedness. No prior experience is necssary–just bring your openness and willingness to explore.
Because we are beginning with a meditative practice, late arrival is not permitted. Doors will open 10 minutes before the session - please arrive on time.
Water, tea and light refreshments will be provided.
Please bring your journal, pen and water bottle and wear comfortable clothing.
