OPENING NIGHT FILM 
TPFF is thrilled to be opening this year's festival with the Canadian Premiere of Naila and the Uprising - The Movie by Julia Bacha on Sept 20 at 7:00 PM (paired with the critically-acclaimed short film بونبونة bonboné - a film by Rakan Mayasi). Q&A to follow!

When a nation-wide uprising breaks out in 1987, a woman in Gaza must make a choice between love, family, and freedom. Undaunted, she embraces all three, joining a clandestine network of women in a movement that forces the world to recognize the Palestinian right to self-determination for the first time. Chronicling the remarkable journey of Naila Ayesh, the film captures the most vibrant, nonviolent mobilization in Palestinian history – the First Intifada.
