Thomas Demand: HOUSE OF CARD

The exhibition title HOUSE OF CARD refers to the precariousness of Thomas Demand's practice as a builder, exploring ephemerality through his use of paper and cardboard. Demand is known for producing full-scale models that recreate notorious, newsworthy or familiar scenes, often sourced from media images. Demand then records these recreations on camera through photography or film, and the models are subsequently destroyed.

HOUSE OF CARD features a selection of these recreations, along with more recent works that emphasize Demand’s exploration of architecture, model making and collaborative processes. HOUSE OF CARD also features works by other influential architects and designers, including Martin Boyce, and Caruso St John Architects, as well as a functioning karaoke bar by Rirkrit Tiravanija.
