THE SOUND OF RHYTHMS & RESISTANCE - A tribute to Toronto's Caribbean Music Legacy
The roots of Caribbean music run deep in Toronto and on November 4, 2023 that rich legacy will be celebrated with The Sound of Rhythms & Resistance. This exciting music event will bring multiple generations of the city’s top Jamaican artists together, for a one-of-a-kind concert, at Toronto’s newest music space, TD Allied Music Hall.
The stellar lineup features music legends Jay Douglas and Nana McLean alongside rising stars Ammoye and teenage sensation Kairo McLean, all backed by one of Canada’s best reggae groups, The Human Rights. The all-female band Rayzalution will get the show started, while DJ Chocolate will be spinning discs. Who better to MC the evening than multi-award winning radio personality Carrie Mullings, daughter of Karl Mullings, one of the founding fathers of reggae music in Toronto.
We are proud to announce that The Sound of Rhythms & Resistance will be the first in an exciting series of events presented by the Toronto Music Experience (TME). TME is a bold, new initiative to create a permanent cultural destination that celebrates Toronto’s vast and diverse music scene – past, present and future - an idea that is long overdue for the city of Toronto and its world class musical heritage.
