The Road Not Travelled

When we reflect back on our life choices and wonder “what if”, are we filled with regret, or gratitude? Maybe we see ourselves down a path we hadn’t imagined - for better or worse. But each decision made is a lesson learned and leaves us all the wiser. Drawing inspiration from Robert Frost’s poem “The Road Not Taken”, new works by the Spectrum composers and featured guest composer James Lowrie delve deep into our internal struggle to quiet our mind of the hypothetical.

Our featured performers, classical guitarists Daniel Ramjattan and James Lowrie, and flute duo Flautas del Fuego, set the stage for this intimate exploration of promises unfulfilled to blessings in disguise, and the sage we become through it all.

About Spectrum:

Spectrum Music is a group of Canadian music composers and curators who create and present an annual concert series, where jazz, classical, pop, and world music collide. Spectrum's concert programs are almost entirely made of up world premieres composed specifically for our concerts. These adventurous, innovative, and fun new works are brought to life by a rotating cast of Toronto's best emerging and established performers from diverse genres.

Spectrum strives to show audiences that music is neither a trivial diversion nor an ostentatious luxury, but a basic human need. We do this through themed concerts, where music is used to explore the world around us. Since 2010, we have been creating new music concerts that are relatable and accessible to all.
