The Never-Ending Present: The Story of Gord Downie and the Tragically Hip
Its the book youve been waiting for: The Never-Ending Present is the first comprehensive biography of the Tragically Hip, telling the full story from their first basement practices to their equally tragic and triumphant final tour.
Michael Barclay is a co-author of Have Not Been the Same who wrote extensively about the Hip's final tour for Maclean's in the summer and fall of 2016. This unauthorized book draws from more than 80 new interviews with managers, producers, peers and friends to tell the story not only of this band, but of many bands: cover bands, opening bands, aging bands, Canadian bands. A story of poetry and performance, of dealing with disease and of seeking reconciliation, of dance and its disappearance. A story about how this country sees itself in song and otherwise. A story about a show watched by 11 million Canadians, and 33 years of reasons why all those people watched in the first place.
It's a story that will be celebrated on a night in Toronto in a place with checkerboard floors. An evening you wont want to miss.
Barclay will be interviewed on stage by Lana Gay, followed by an all-star band with guest singers playing some of yer favourites. Full details on the musical lineup TBA.
A portion of proceeds from book sales at the show and in perpetuity will benefit legal group EcoJustice and literacy advocates Frontier College.
