Let’s Talk Politics is a student-run committee at the University of Toronto dedicated to offering students the opportunity to learn important political topics outside of the traditional classroom setting. As a club, we hope to achieve this through Q & A Seminars with various people immersed in government and the political sphere. With this in mind, Let’s Talk Politics is excited to announce that we will be collaborating with 8 80 Cities Founder and 2022 Mayoral Candidate Gil Penalosa on October 21st 2022 to bring forth a riveting panel titled The Neighbourhood City. This panel will bring forth an interesting discussion regarding affordable housing, public transportation, safe streets, green spaces, and the public services available within the local community which will then be followed by a general q & a session to further scope out the issues at hand. The brilliant and successful Gil Penalosa is more than qualified to answer any questions one might have upon these topics as he is, as previously mentioned, the founder and chair for 8 80 cities; a successful Canadian-based international non-profit organization dedicated towards creating healthier and more equitable cities for all individuals regardless of age, gender, race, ethnicity, ability, or socio-economic background. Furthermore, he has inspired and advised decision makers in more than 350 cities. Therefore this session is highly beneficial for all individuals interested in urban planning related issues and who hold a general interest in creating more equitable and sustainable cities for all.
