The Bull and The Rose

The Flamenco production entitled "The Bull and the Rose" features Virginia Castro Durán as principal dancer. It is a show exploring the contrasts of love and individuality through the Andalusian artform: fire and fight alongside beauty and flair.

It all takes place at Toronto's Red Sandcastle Theatre, a 50-seat black-box theatre re-inhabiting an old storefront on Queen Street East. The performance will be entirely acoustic, red wine will flow, and Flamenco will dazzle. Only a hand's breadth will separate you from the intensity on stage.

This show features some of Toronto's favourite artsits on the vivid and diverse Flamenco scene in the city. Highlighting the evening is lead dancer Virginia Castro Durán, a young new-comer on the Canadian landscape and graduate of the Superior Conservatory of Dance in Málaga, Spain. Virginia is highly expressive with her body. She is a master of form and has the fast footwork to match.

Powerful vocalist Tamar Ilana (of Toronto's world-music ensemble Ventanas) joins duende-inspired Fernando Gallego (sure to give you shivers) in this production about contrasts and compliments. We are also graced by the percussive mastery of the renowned Chendy León on cajón.

Dennis Duffin -- a regular on the Flamenco scene in Canada and founder of Flamenco Juerga Toronto, the hub of the flamenco community in the city -- is both the guitarist and producer of this event. This production is something he dreamed of putting together during his year-long stint in Seville. He wants to bring some of those unique performances many of us have experienced in Andalusia to the senses of audiences in our hometown of Toronto.

The production is one night only with VERY limited seating (the theatre only sits 50!).
