Mahler: Songs of a Wayfarer (arr. Schoenberg)

J. Strauss: Three Waltzes (arr. Schoenberg and Berg)

Gifted section principals from the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, including concertmaster Jonathan Crow, step into the spotlight to focus their outstanding skills on captivating music for small ensembles. The program, representing the late-Romantic, Austro-Hungarian school, includes a warm-hearted Sextet by Dohnányi, and transcriptions of an eloquent Mahler song-cycle and three of Johann Strauss Jr.’s most familiar and most elegant waltzes.
