Speculation with special guest Laurie Brown & Pondercast
Speculation is a multi-disciplinary concert that weaves together monologue and projections with live performances of Beethoven and John Cage to tell a mother-daughter story about loss and listening.
While her mother slowly loses her vision, optometrist Leslie Ting makes a career change to pursue her dream of becoming a professional musician. After her mother dies suddenly, Ting, now a violinist, must listen to the silence to discover what she couldn’t see before. Speculation also features pianist Ben Smith.
The second half of the concert is a new collaboration between Ting and special guest Laurie Brown (from CBC’s The Signal). This live episode of Brown’s new podcast, Pondercast, will continue exploring the themes of sight and listening with Brown’s signature broadcasting style of music and narrative alongside Brown’s vision of a personal and multidisciplinary performance.
