Silent Comedy Revue @ the Revue Cinema
Back by popular demand, this season’s Silent Comedy Revue pays tribute to the talented leading ladies of slapstick -- those trailblazing women who held their own with such comedy legends as Charlie Chaplin and "Fatty" Arbuckle!
Guaranteed to satisfy young and old alike, our collection of hilarious and uproarious shorts will highlight the careers of:
Mabel Normand: One of Hollywood's premier female director-screenwriter-actresses, Mabel was one of the first superstars of the silver screen. See her go toe-to-toe with the heaviest of comedy heavy hitters, "Fatty" Arbuckle, in Mabel's Dramatic Career (1913).
Gloria Swanson: Best known for her role in Sunset Boulevard (1950), Swanson was first a star of the silent screen, starring in Teddy at the Throttle (1917) alongside “Teddy the Wonder Dog,” one of cinema’s earliest and most beloved canine superstars!
And finally, Edna Purviance, Chaplin’s essential leading lady and possessor of the Tramp's heart, who starred with Chaplin in over thirty films, including one of his most heart-warming and beloved, The Immigrant (1917).
Featuring live piano accompaniment by Jordan Klapman.
