Rue Morgue's CineMacabre Movie Nights presents The 50th Anniversary of Ingmar Bergman's HOUR OF THE WOLF
Rue Morgue’s CineMacabre Movie Nights promise the best of classic and contemporary horror at The Royal Cinema – once a month, every month.
While attempting to relax on a remote island, a painter Johan (Max von Sydow) and his pregnant wife Alma are in the midst of extreme emotional turmoil. Johan finds himself confronted by manifestations of demons and ghosts, all enticing him with his deepest repressed desires. Alma, who wants to save and help her husband, begins to see the same demons who taunt him: Lady With the Hat and Removable Face, his mistress Veronica Vogler, the Bird-Man, and Baron von Merkens, the owner of the island, who invites the couple over for a truly haunting dinner.
Hour of the Wolf is Ingmar Bergman’s only horror film – employing atmosphere so thick that it suffocates its viewers, and shiver-inducing imagery at every strange corner of this deserted island. For fans of David Lynch’s sinister ambience, see Hour of the Wolf, a film that assuredly inspired Lynch’s nightmares, as well as the nightmares of many.
