Set in early 1990s New York and based on Jonathan Larson's award-winning musical, Rent follows struggling artists Mark (Anthony Rapp), an aspiring filmmaker, Roger (Adam Pascal), an HIV-positive musician, and Maureen (Idina Menzel), a revolutionary performance artist, as they navigate love, careers and the shadow of the AIDS epidemic. Their landlord and former roommate, Benny (Taye Diggs), adds tension over unpaid rent. Meanwhile, their friend Tom (Jesse L. Martin), a professor, falls in love with Angel (Wilson Jermaine Heredia), who is battling AIDS.
