Workshops:
A Poetry Parsing Party for the Poetically Illiterate
A reading party where we will pose candid questions about historically famous and enigmatic poems and collectively come up with answers. No experience in poetry is required; bring your own snacks.
Make Some Noise - Introduction to Sound Poetry
We will learn the seldom-understood and obscure genre of sound poetry, a type of literary performance that focuses on the sound of language, taking our cues from sound poet Kurt Schwitters.
That’s So Absurd - Surrealist and Dadaist Writing Games
We will explore the writing games of Surrealism and Dadaism, 20th century avant-garde movements in art and literature dedicated to the creative potential of the unconscious mind and hidden meaning in the absurd.
Haikus are Easy / 5 – 7 – 5 / Count all the Syllables
In this whimsical writing workshop, participants will reimagine the art of the Haiku, a Japanese poem reflecting on nature, and other traditional poetic forms such as the sonnet, Cinquain, and the limerick.
Lost in Translation / Found in Poetry
Bring your mom, dad, son or daughter to this intergenerational poetry workshop where we will play round after round of ‘lost in translation’ games and grapple with imperfect bilingualism; miscommunication is the source of our poetry.
